We have a family pass to the Dallas Zoo and love it, but I think we're going to love it even more since they opened the new Giants of the Savanna area. It's an open area with elephants, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, and more. You can even get up close to the giraffes and feed them ($5 for 5 lettuce leaves...I'm bringing my own head of lettuce next time!). This morning Jake had his last day of school, but I needed to get the girls out of the house for a bit so I decided we'd hit the zoo. We got there right when it opened and Abby started running around looking for the giraffes. We made our way back to the Savanna and had a blast running around and I even splurged and bought some way over priced romaine lettuce so she could feed the giraffes. The one by us must have been hungry because those five leaves lasted less than 2 minutes! Oh well, she had fun. After the Savanna we made our way to the children's area for a quick "dip" in the river and to see some chickens. Although Abby quickly found a very unfriendly rooster that didn't want to be picked up and let her know it. She escaped with a minor "bite" to her finger and then proceeded to look for the "little chickens". We were only there an hour and a half since we had to get Jake from the bus, but that's the beauty of a pass - we can come back next week!
First up...the elephants.
Next the giraffes!
(I would have picked her up but the attendant made me leave the stroller out of the area so I had lettuce, Lily and the camera in my hands :-)
Riding an elephant! We didn't have time for the carousel, but that didn't matter to Abby. She had a blast riding the elephants instead. And it's free!
