TV or No TV?

Well, there's been a lot of debate on kids and TV. I've always tried to limit how much TV the kids watch and used to only let them watch a 30 minute movie 1x week. Then at 11 months that moved to 1x a day when we gave up our 3rd nap. I used to cook dinner during that nap and when we gave it up, they were super cranky so I put on an Einstein and they'd sit calmly and watch it. That has now progressed to watching TV after lunch plus a movie in the evening. The rest of the time we listen to the radio, which they LOVE! That's how Abby gets so much practice time in for her cool dance moves. But we had a speaker this past Tuesday at PAMOM that finally convinced me to cut out the TV all together (that includes what I watch too). Well mostly. They'll still probably get one 30 minute movie at night, but it's a DVD so there's no commercials. We'll start there and then if I can muster up the strength to cut that out too we will, but right now, I still need that time so I can get dinner cooked. Otherwise, I won't eat until 8:30 or 9! And I just can't eat that late; I'm too hungry by then. John and I talked about it last night and he was fine with it, as he's usually not here with them, but it'll be tough for him on the weekends I think. I don't think he realized he couldn't watch his programs with the kids in the room either. Oh well. Save the dendrites!!

That is such a dilemma. Sometimes just hearing the first few notes of Moose & Z singing their Noggin on Demand song before Blues Clues comes on is enough to distract Audrey from a meltdown. Then she's all smiles and doesn't even stay put long enough to watch a whole episode of ANYTHING. But yes, those Einstien DVDS are captivating and such a guranteed 30min to get SOMETHING done (especially something as important as dinner!). Even more, Audrey really likes the Praise Baby DVDs. Yes, it is an important limit to us too, but sometimes difficult to enforce : )
