Well, we had our 2 year old check-up today. I can't believe they'll be two next week!!! It feels like yesterday that we were watching every ounce they drank and getting up to feed every 3 hours. I know we get to start that all over again next week and I'm sure when I get home they'll seem so "big" compared to the new baby.
No big news to share from the check-up this morning. Everyone is doing fine. Abby's coming in at a whopping 25.2 pounds and 34.5" tall and Jake is tipping the scales at 22.4 pounds (yeah!!!) and 33" tall. Jake's still in the 3rd percent for weight, but the pedi said he's continuing to grow normal on his chart and hasn't dipped or stalled and that's what he goes by. He's assuming he's just a late bloomer and will probably shoot up when he's older. I did ask about his height though as I've heard you're supposed to double their height at 2 for their adult height (give or take 3 inches). Well 33" would only put Jake at 5'6" - 5'9". Not very tall for a guy and considering mine and John's height. Our pedi laughed and said there's no science to that myth at all.
Abby's also doing great in language and talked a bunch for the doctor today (mainly saying "bye, bye" and "all-done"). She actually charted at over 3 years for skills on the worksheet they make you fill out. Although I'm not sure those are super accurate. Jake was right on track for his age, but he was a little concerned about the understandability (is this a word?) of his words. He passed his hearing test with flying colors and is speaking more and more, but you can't understand what he says most of the time. He said if he didn't improve in another month or two he wanted to get him checked out again by ECI and get him into speech therapy. Ugh! I thought we were through with them! I may see if there are other options as I really didn't feel we got much this last time around with them (although they were great with Abby). He said we should really be able to understand about 50% of what he says, and we're probably only at about 5 or 10% without context (in context I can usually figure out what he's saying about 50% of the time, maybe a bit more).
The pedi also put my mind at ease with where we are knowing our ABCs/123s. We know some and we're starting to understand them much better than even 2 weeks ago, but we still can't count past 2 (although I think Abby's on the verge of counting to 5) and we can't recite all of our ABCs yet. Now he said if we were 4 and didn't know these, he'd be worried, but not at two. Thank goodness!!
